Birthday Invitation Phrases and Wording

MasQueradE MasKs

Birthday invitations, and the wording and phrases that go in them, can run the gamut from witty and fun to serious and straightforward. The best thing to keep in mind when deciding upon birthday invitation verses and wording is who the birthday party is for. Age, personality, interests, and even profession can play a part. The invitation wording should represent the celebrant well.

Children's Birthday Invitations are typically fun and lighthearted, and usually play a part in a larger theme. Sometimes inspiration for a theme can come just by browsing through some birthday invitations.

Once a theme is in place, you'll want to include birthday invitation wording to match. For a Circus themed party with Circus party invitations the invitation wording might read:

The giraffe stretches his neck to see;
the elephant waves his trunk with glee;
the seal twirls his ball with joy,
in honor of the birthday boy.
Come join Cody in celebrating his seventh birthday
Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 PM
RSVP (509) 123-4567

The older the child gets it may become easier to decide on a theme, or even forgo the theme as the child gets into its teen years. A sweet sixteen, for example, is a theme all its own. For this kind of party, you should pick out some Sweet Sixteen invitations that fit the personality of the celebrant. If it's a girl, something pink and frilly might be appropriate, such as Princess Tiara Birthday Party Invitation, with the following wording:

Steer clear! Brianna's got a license to drive!
Come celebrate her sweet sixteen.
Friday, March 14th
5:00 - 7:00 PM
at Big Daddy's Bowling
2850 S. Ray, Spokane
R.S.V.P. (509)-777-7777

If the birthday person is turning 18 years of age or younger, it is considered okay to include the exact age they are turning in the birthday invitation wording. When considering including jokes about age, do so with much consideration and sensitivity. Consider the formality of the party and who's being invited. If it's a formal dinner for a coworker, you may want to nix any thought of light-heartedness. If it's a backyard barbecue party for a close relative or friend, this may be the perfect time for a light-hearted jab. Generally, the rule is to only make an age-related joke if the person who's birthday you're celebrating would make the joke themselves.

When considering birthday invitation wording when the celebrant is an adult, it is common to point out the joys of growing older:

Some things are better the older they grow.
Antiques, wine and someone special we know!

You should still keep in mind who is having the birthday. You don't necessarily have to throw a themed party, but the wording for the birthday invitation cards should show a glimmer of who the celebrant is. Let's say the celebrant enjoys Gardening. You'll want to get Garden Party Invitations and include matching wording:

Friends are flowers in the garden of life . . .
and we've "picked" a great bunch to celebrate Jackie's Birthday.

Another avenue you might pursue is the surprise party. In your invitation wording, it should be expressed clearly that the celebrant doesn't and shouldn't know details of the party. Here are some examples:

Shh! It's a surprise party!
Please join us in celebrating
Holly Roberts 30th birthday
On September 2nd
At 7 o'clock pm
The Smith's House
1201 S. Wesley
Madison, WI

Our good friend Jerry is turning the big 5-0
We're throwing a party, and you're invited to show.
If you can make it, here's a word to the wise,
Keep it under your hat, 'cause it's a surprise!
July 10th at 6 PM
At the Rock Bottom Brewery
560 Main Street
Seattle, WA

Please join us in celebrating
Tina Clarks Birthday
on May 22nd
Cocktails - 6:00pm
Dinner - 7:30pm
Scratch Restaurant
345 W Ivy
It's a surprise!

Overall, your birthday invitation wording should not only convey the details of the party, but should also be a good reflection of who the celebrant is.

The Mask

Life holds many mysteries just as a mask mysteriously hides the identity of who or what is behind it. Curiosity may be aroused as an individual experiences a feeling of anticipation while waiting for the revelation of the mystery.

A mask is used as a cover-up, a means of hiding the true identity or image behind the mask. A mask is used by millions of children and adults for Halloween, masquerades, parties, festivals such as Mardi Gras and the Chinese New Year celebration, and various productions. These are festive occasions for the purpose of entertainment and excitement, and often bring enjoyment to the participants. I'm sure all of you reading this have donned a mask sometime in your life.

These masks are quite visible and are often recognizable as someone who once lived, a cartoon or mythical character, or someone who is well known in our present life. But some people wear another type mask.

The mask I've just referenced is an invisible mask, one we recognize as a specific identity when in reality it is a cover-up to hide the true identity of an individual. You've probably heard something like this: "he/she sure showed their true colors." In this situation another side of an individual showed up and for that moment their invisible mask was removed. What they were hiding beneath their mask was now revealed.

My belief is that many people in your life right now are wearing a mask; maybe you are too. You believe them to be a particular person when in actuality they are someone else. Perhaps they always smile and act really happy but inside they are scared and insecure. One day an incident happens and something they say or do shows their other side, sometimes referred to as their "dark side."

As a spiritual life coach I see this cover-up continually because individuals seek me out once they can no longer deal with the internal battle going on within them. The stress involved with trying to hold up the image of who they are trying to be becomes too much and they fold. Yet others spend their entire life holding onto the image and wearing the mask no matter what it costs them.

Stress is a killer as anyone in the health field will tell you, even the medical profession. Stress breaks down the immune system, burns out the adrenal glands - our stress regulator, contributes to heart disease as well as many other diseases, and ruins many relationships. Trying to keep up the image of your mask is a major stressor and will, at some point, create a disastrous effect in your life.

So what's the solution? It's really quite simple but hard for so many people to implement - simply be yourself. This means that no matter where you are or who you are with, you always act the same way, talk the same way, and are the same. Your standards, values and ethics remain constant and everyone around you can vouch for who you are.

In the past I was very insecure and had a very low self-image, so I pretended to be this got-it-all-together person. I wanted to prove to myself as well as my friends and family how great I was by doing many physical things to prove I was accomplished and worthy of the image they had of me. Yet inside I was afraid and anxious, never able to really relax, because I felt I really wasn't that altogether person with all those abilities, and could never measure up. It created a great stress within me because I knew I really didn't think that highly of myself, that I was certainly less than perfect, even though I worked hard by doing and producing many extra things to hopefully convince myself and those in my life that I was that altogether, amazing person. Then one day I crashed!

I had driven myself into poor health with worry and cover-up. My adrenals were a mess but no one figured that out, so I suffered. My healing journey took years until I understood the whole picture. Yes, my physical body had broken down and had to be addressed with proper nutrients and lifestyle changes, but the reason it had broken was because of my internal stressors and lack of awareness of my inborn magnificence. I had grown up with the wrath of God hanging over my head if I didn't do things a certain way, so I always felt I was inadequate. But as I became an adult I learned how to hide from my fears and inadequacies by pretending to be the person I wanted to be: cool, calm, collected, happy and full of vibrancy and joy. I also grew to understand that by the time the physical symptoms had surfaced, the negative energy I created within me had traveled through the mental, emotional and spiritual realms, and when it hit the physical realm, well, that's when it got my intention - the cosmic two-by-four if you will.

As I began to discover my true identity, that I was in fact a child of God and born with amazing gifts and the power to create whatever I wanted in my life, I began to shift from my internal battle of low self-worth to the realization that I didn't need to prove to anyone my worth because I was already worthy from birth. First I began to understand it in my head and accept that belief, but it wasn't until I brought it down into my heart so that I truly knew this fact that I became the person I always dreamed of becoming: cool, calm, collected, happy, full of vibrancy and joy. The most amazing aspect of this entire transformation was the fact that the mask I had been wearing for years was actually who I could be and finally became!

So often we pose as the person we want to be when in reality we can be that person. It begins with self-approval, knowing you are worthy just as you are and don't have to do anything to earn your worthiness. Most individuals will put a mask on their face of whom they wish to be, someone better than they believe they are. And we do find that some people pretend to be loving, caring people with high integrity only to discover that was a cover-up of the not so loving, caring or ethical person they portrayed. Sad to say but some people are pretty evil inside and eventually their ugliness appears. I've heard a story several times of individuals living two lives simultaneously, married to two spouses with two sets of children, yet neither of the spouses knowing the truth until one day all of the deception surfaced and the real story was exposed. I'm afraid we do find many people who wear this mask of deception.

When I took off my mask and became my true self, what a relief. No more self-pity or self-disapproval. I became the same every day without inhibitions and without shame or blame. I shed stress like a winter coat on a warm spring day. I was able to breathe deeply and relax, something I had to learn to do since I had become a expert at shallow breathing and tightly knotted muscles, symptoms of stress. All of this became possible as a result of changing my innermost programming into believing and accepting my true worth; a mask was no longer needed or wanted for their was no longer anything to hide.

My invitation to you is to grab your mask, rip it off, and toss it into the trash. Go inside and find out who you truly are and then live as that person. If you don't like what you see, and most probably there will be things you will want to change, then get started releasing your old thoughts and beliefs about yourself and begin shifting into the thoughts and beliefs that will propel you into the person you want to be. I can promise that if you truly want to make the changes, you will be able to do it. It begins with a choice, your choice, and with that choice comes an incredible opportunity, the opportunity of creating an extraordinary life as the person you wish to be!

Make the choice today to begin a new direction, one that allows you to be you, just as you are, a wonderful, fantastic, magnificent individual with the power to create the life you want. You don't need a mask; you only need a mirror to see your true self!

First Thursday's on South Congress in Austin Texas

Austin is a great place for families. All year round the city is full of events that cater to its citizens young and old. One of the most popular destinations is First Thursdays on South Congress Avenue where once a month the shops stay open late and the entire street becomes a pedestrian friendly party that the whole family can enjoy. The South Congress Area (or SoCo as it is now called) has long had a reputation for its eclectic shops, art galleries, and restaurants. On First Thursday, everything stays open until 10pm on South Congress between Riverside Drive and Ben White Boulevard.

For those with kids in tow, you may want to make your first stop the Big Top Candy Shop. They carry a wide selection of vintage candy that you'll remember from when you were a kid as well as all the new verities that you may have not have tried. They also have an old fashioned soda fountain serving up hot chocolate, peppermint shakes, and desserts.

You may want to then head over to Lucy in Disguise, Austin's largest costume shop for a quick game of dress up. Lucy's opened its doors on April fool's Day in 1984 and has grown into an 8,000 sq. ft. costume mega store. Whether it's a funny hat or a Mardi gras mask, Lucy's has something for everyone. It's a great place to get lost among the rows and rows of wacky costumes.

A new addition to South Congress is the Farm to Market Grocery. Inside you'll find a wide selection of specialty items and fresh fruits and vegetables. On First Thursdays it's a great place to stop in for a quick snack or to pick up a piece of fruit to carry with you down the street.

If you're looking for a gift, you should take a moment to step into Monkey See, Monkey! Doing their part of Keep Austin Weird, they specialize in bizarre gifts that you may not ever see again. Where else are you going to find a Sock Monkey Wine Coozy? They also claim to carry 7 out of the 10 stupidest gifts listed on yahoo.com. The best part is that they're proud of it.

When you get hungry from all the walking and shopping, there are a number of great food options. Guerro's serves up world famous Mexican Cuisine and some of the best Margaritas in town. It is also a favorite haunt of local celebrities and a great place to people watch. Homeslice Pizza serves up some of the best New York style pies in town. They're so serious about their pizza that they closed the whole shop for a week to take the staff to New York on a pizza tasting tour. If you have a sweet tooth, you should head over to Amy's Ice Cream, an Austin original that serves up their own unique ice cream flavors.

Fans of live music will have to check out the Continental Club, one of Austin's most well known music venues. Every night of the week, they showcase both local and national touring acts. You may also want to check out their new gallery space upstairs, a comfortable lounge with live jazz and blues every night of the week.

There really is something for everyone of South Congress and First Thursdays offer an amazing opportunity to explore every hot spot in the street. You never know who you'll see and are guaranteed to discover something new.

Mardi Gras Party Theme Ideas

Encourage guests to arrive dressed in costume and ready to have fun!

While Fat Tuesday is the traditional time to have a Mardi Gras party, you can have one any time of the year. What better way to liven things up? It's also a great way to celebrate the ongoing spirit of New Orleans.

Decorations

There are many Mardi Gras supplies out there, but you can create a fun party without having to purchase a lot of supplies.

Think green, gold, and purple!

*Use lots of green, gold, and purple balloons.
*Brightly colored poster boards to create the "happy and sad" theatre faces as well as some eye masks.
*Beads, beads, beads!
*Christmas lights can add an accent to the rich colors.
*Create your own noisemakers with any type of container and a few beans or rice inside.

Invitations

The invitations can include the Mardi Gras masks and lots of green, yellow, and purple beads with "Celebrate" or "Party" on the face cover.

You can make your own homemade invitation by using die cut cardstock from your craft store. Use a hot glue gun to adhere purple, green, and yellow feathers to your decorative Mardi Gras mask invitation.

Food/Drink

Consider a blend of seafood, Cajun, and jambalaya. Easy recipes can be found online or in many cookbooks. Offer a range of festive drinks as well, such as a Hurricane, Bloody Mary, and Mint Juleps.

Music

An inexpensive option is a compilation of music on one CD. Here are some popular styles of Mardi Gras music:

*Jazz
*Zydeco
*Blues
*Cajun

Have a festive Fat Tuesday!

Make Your Own Mardi Gras Masks

Mardi Gras is incomplete wihtout the Mardi Gras Masks. Mardi Gras is also known as the Shrove Tuesday in the United Kingdom. In French, Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday. The festivities of Mardi Gras are incomplete without a Mardi Gras Mask. It would not be wrong to say that there is no Mardi Gras without a Mardi Gras Mask. You can buy the Mardi Gras Mask for your guests from the different online stores or stores near you, who are offering the Mardi Gras decorations and other stuff to make the spirit of Mardi Gras alive.

Since Mardi Gras Party cannot be planned without Mardi Gras Masks and if you do not want to invest in buying them, then you can make your own Mardi Gras Masks. Just do not think that it is going to be too tough, it can be fun for you and your kids making the masks and this is going to be one good activity for you all. You can plan making the Mardi Gras Masks well before you are going to throw the party. The materials that you are going to require to make the Mardi Gras Masks include printer, paper, glue, scissors, tapes, colors, thin cardboard, an unsharpened pencils.

First of all you need to have a template to make the Mardi Gras Masks of different shapes and print it on the paper. Then color the template with the colors of your choice and glue up the template on the thin cardboard. Let the colored template dry out so that you can cut the card board easily. It is important that your template must be according to the size of your guests and that can be very much similar to the adult face size like yours and the kids must have a template that matches their face size so that they can see through the eyes. You then need to cut out holes in the card board of the Mardi Gras Mask. Place some sparkles on the edges of the Mardi Gras Masks as well as glitter, which will give it an awesome look. Cover the pencil with a colored paper and then fix it to the mask with a masking tape and now you have a Mardi Gras Mask of your own.

Should You Purchase Masquerade Masks on a Stick Or Without?

All kinds of masquerade masks are beautiful but masquerade masks on sticks are more elegant looking. Regular masks are nice but this type of mask really adds to your beauty. There are many different styles of stick masks that you can choose from. Many people prefer wearing these kinds of masks especially women.

Women really want to look elegant and luxuriously beautiful with the masquerade masks on sticks. Although you can mostly see the stick masks being worn by women, men can also wear these kinds of masks. They prefer having these types of masquerades for various reasons. One reason why they desire to wear these is because they are able to carry those masks around and wear them at their leisure. You will still have the option to take yours away for a moment and bring it back if you wanted to. This is more advantageous when you are taking pictures. Another reason why many people prefer wearing masquerade masks on sticks is that because they love to carry the stick masks around as accessories to the party. Moreover this kind can really add flair to their outfits.

Women choose to wear masquerades on sticks because they are able to hold them in front but not directly on their faces. This is a great advantage because women like to put on heavy make ups and want their hair dressed up so they spend a lot of time with it. Therefore using sticks is really more favourable than not using one.

As mentioned earlier masquerade masks on sticks are more elegant looking with the attendee's outfit. Women look more attractive and gorgeous when they hold their masks in front of them. It adds up to the mystery and overall impact. Hence it makes you noticeably beautiful. You just have to make sure that your stick mask matches your outfit and the mask has bright colors.

These are the reasons why people, especially women, prefer the masquerade masks on sticks. It gives you an alternative and it makes you really feel great when you are having a stick mask with you.

I Love Italian Travel - Venice Carnevale Season

The Venice Carnevale is among the most famous Carnivals in the world taking a back seat to Rio and perhaps New Orleans. But does it meet the hype? Should you feel that you have missed out if you have to spend Carnevale in an alternate Italian location, a Carnival elsewhere in the world, or perhaps even at home? That's for you and only you and perhaps your partner to decide. Hopefully this article will help you make this momentous decision.

The Venice Carnevale is relatively short, lasting only about two weeks. That can be a good thing, even more so when you consider the costs involved. The city of Venice has a population of about 270 thousand of which less than a quarter actually live in the historic town. Compare these figures to the estimated 50 thousand visitors per day, and we are talking about the annual average, not Carnevale time. On the upside, Venice is the largest car-free city in Europe, but there are two pricey parking lots.

Back to Carnevale. The first record of Venetian Carnevale was in 1296 when the local Senate decreed the day before Lent to be a public holiday. Festivities in the early days included slaughtering of pigs and oxen and mass brawls, for which bridges seemed to be a favored location. According to Seventeenth Century guidebooks more than 30 thousand visitors graced the city during Carnevale week. After the Venice Republic fell in 1797 Carnevale was banned and didn't return for decades. In the days of Mussolini it was illegal to wear a mask in public. Then it became a sort of children's party but nothing more. Believe it or not, the modern Carnevale dates only from 1979. By 2004 annual attendance passed the one million mark with over one hundred thousand on the final Saturday and Sunday. The peak has passed and attendance is on the way down. Perhaps in the words of that athletic philosopher, Yogi Berra, "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."

Masks were and are a central feature of the Venetian Carnevale. People wore them for a large part of the year, would you believe that at one point in Venetian history mask wearing was reduced to three months a year? The Mascherari (mask makers) were favored members of society and had their own guild and even their own laws. The original masks were made of papier-mache, a major component of allegorical floats as well. Other mask materials include leather and wax cloth, which they tell me is fine for eating and dancing. The sky is the limit for decorative materials including gold leaf, feathers, and jewels.

Here is a short list of some official events and their admission charge cost for the 2010 Carnivale. At the time of this writing one Euro is worth about $1.43. Hot Chocolate in Costume at the Hotel Danieli on Saturday, February 6 costs 50 Euros. Expect to pay for costume rental. I don't know what the cleaning charge is if you get hot chocolate all over your Marie Antoinette dress. Later that day at the Luna Hotel Baglioni there is a Moon masquerade with a refined Carnival Buffet Dinner and music of the 70s and 80s costing 290 Euros. I do not recommend that you wear the clothes you wore to 70s and 80s concerts, even if you can fit in them. Let's skip to the final day. On Tuesday, February 16 at the Hotel Danieli you'll enjoy Venezia Romantica with a top dinner, a ball, and lots more for 450 Euros. The dress code is Historical Costume. Enjoy. And look for me. I'll be the guy in those plastic giveaway glasses from American 1950s 3-D movies.

You Can Choose a Quality Oriental Rug With Confidence

In the showroom, we are often asked, "How can I tell the quality of an Oriental rug?" The most well-known rug masterpieces were woven in Persia, and those revered patterns set the standard for many reproduction rugs today. Today's new reproduction rugs are woven with such great care and quality that they retain their value and should last decades and decades, when subjected to ordinary wear and tear. Because of this, even experts can find it difficult to identify reproduction rugs from a distance. Gone are the days when a rug's origin predicted its quality. Now, Pakistan, India, Turkey and other rug producers create rugs in good, better, and fine quality.

So, what must you look for when choosing an Oriental rug? Good quality wool rugs have healthy wool which is soft and pliable and shows no evidence of being dry, course or brittle. Silk rugs have good sheen and exhibit fine detail in the outline of color boundaries and include more knots per square inch due to the finer fibers.

A good quality rug will not shed significantly, but care must also be taken to thoroughly vacuum a heavily traveled rug, as small sharp grit particles will cut the wool at the foundation and cause unnecessary shedding of a good quality rug. If there are any repairs to a good quality rug, they should have been performed professionally and thoroughly with no structural damage remaining. A good quality rug is evenly woven with consistent knot size and is evenly sheared. There should be no odors or permanent stains.

Wear, if any, should be even with little variation of pile height and should have relatively straight edges and lay flat. Except for very modern rugs woven on commercial metal frames, handmade rugs will have a slightly longer edge. An heirloom wooden frame is used and passed down by families who have woven rugs for generations, and it is not likely plumb. It may take over 18 months to complete a room size rug, and as mother and daughter sit side by side, the mother's experienced hand is able to weave tighter knots than the daughter's, but as she becomes skilled, her knot gauge becomes similar to her mother's.

The most formal rugs have symmetrical designs; however there may be noticeable differences in the pattern when inspected closely. This is due to the human element involved in weaving for several hours each day. These subtle variations give a distinct identity to the rug. The primary difference between a good quality and fine quality rug is the number of knots per square inch.

Bad quality rugs may have heavy color run due to improper care or washing and may exhibit sun fade, having been used in an area of direct sunlight and not having been rotated. The damage we see most often in the showroom includes water and rust damage. Water damage occurs most often when a plant that is displayed on a rug is unknowingly over watered and the water spills repeatedly on the carpet, causing damage. Rust damage occurs most often when furniture with legs containing metal rest on top of the carpet, such as a sofa or bed, and moisture causes oxidation and rust damages the rug.

Though these problems can be professionally repaired in our on-site repair and restoration department and the rug restored to good quality, we often see good rugs go bad due to poor and patchy repairs. Hazy lines and gaps in edge stitching are clues that reveal uneven weaving technique. Varying pile height is due to uneven shearing and/or wear and is found on bad quality rugs. Bad quality rugs may also have permanent creases, hard curled edges or the foundation visible in areas. Markered, chalked or painted rugs in an attempt to disguise flaws, wear or other damage is also indication of a bad quality rug. As you can see, not all the features of a bad rug are permanent. Some bad rugs are good quality rugs in need of emergency care. We would be happy to evaluate your rug to see if it can be rescued and restored to its formerly treasured past condition.

The ugliest of rugs has no hope. Ugly rugs may have permanent pet stains, dry rot, or water damage. A sure sign of an ugly rug is markered pile or foundation to disguise wear or may masquerade large areas of exposed foundation.

Grading a good quality antique Persian rug is slightly different. It must have all the above qualities, plus have beautiful and desirable colors, be in a condition appropriate for its age, and like all the rugs we sell, speak to your soul.

We hand select every rug for the showroom and choose only the best to include in our collection. Rugs needing tender loving care before they hit the showroom floor are sent to our on-site professional hand washed cleaning department, or if in need of repair or restoration, upstairs to our on-site expert repair department. Rest assured that every rug in our showroom is in its best possible condition before we offer it for sale. With our exclusive trade-in policy, you can feel confident in your investment. For more on quality, care and cost visit our website and register for a free fine quality 2 x 3 Oriental rug to be awarded when you visit the showroom.

Stop by the showroom and it would be our pleasure to evaluate any rug you are considering tossing. We may be able to restore it to its former glory, and at a reasonable price. Adore the floor you walk on!

Fabulous! Carnival in Venice

In about 1985, I saw a photo of Venice during Carnival (Carnevale), which included the masked and costumed revelers, it has been on my "Top 10" visit list ever since.

What is not to like about this event:

  • The beautiful city of Venice

  • A really big 10 day party through the streets

  • Fantastic costumes

  • Italian food

Carnival (Carnevale) is the annual event in Venice for the ten days leading up to Lent, the last night is Shrove Tuesday on which there are several big balls. Of course this is not just a Venetian tradition; think Mardi Gras in Rio or Trinidad during the same time of year, but my interest in fancy masked balls and beautiful costumes is much greater than watching dancers in dental floss bikinis. The origin of the word carnevale is Latin (carnem levare or carnelevarium) and suggests a "farewell to meat", which was traditionally given up in the weeks of self-denial, during the period of Lent.

The history of the masks and the masquerade dates back to Roman times, there are records of the festival as far back as 1162. The Romans celebrated the early part of the year with a fertility festival where masks were used by all levels of society including slaves. The Carnevale di Venezia enjoyed a long period of infamy and notoriety through the 1600s, up until the time of Napoleon's conquer in 1797. At the peak of this event, the party started on December 26th and ended sometime in the spring. This period of gambling and partying coincided with the loss of prominence and wealth in the region, as the power centers of Holland and Britain expanded their trading reaches. The celebration continued to decline and was actually banned in 1930 by Mussolini. A group of Venetians, and Venice lovers restarted the tradition in 1979.

Today the Carnevale is limited to the ten-day period before Lent and it is an enormous tourist draw. The city is really crowded, hotels are expensive, restaurants full and the streets are at times simply bottlenecked. There are websites and tour groups fully dedicated to the event. The range of party events caters to the rich and sophisticated (balls and music), to the families with kids (chocolate and puppets) and to the college crowd (pub crawls).

You can choose to participate in the carnival celebrations in several ways depending on your tastes, energy level and budget. You can simply walk around the streets or sit in a cafe and watch the incredible costumed characters that are wondering the streets. Spend some time in Piazzo San Marco, there are all sorts of special performances throughout the day and night. Choose to get your face painted and have some fun. Or you can buy tickets to any number events, that range from very affordable to very expensive.

We booked two nights in a great hotel right near Piazza San Marco. Arrival in Venice was actually easier than anticipated; there is lots of signage, big car parks and a central arrival point for the aqua-transit system. The vaporetti (water buses) are very efficient, there are multiple routes and destinations available, at a very minimum every visitor will end up on the #1 or #2 at some point, running in the Grande Canal and Canale delle Giudecca (respectively). Buy a multi-day unlimited ticket; you will end up using the system.

Venice at any time of the year is beautiful; there are endless museums, galleries and historical buildings to engage all types of interests. Two things that I would highly recommend;

  1. A visit to the island of Murano where the glass factories are located. You can take the "scenic" boat tour that we did in error and really see all the islands or go direct. In either case, Murano is filled with glass and restaurants and is a nice break from the crowds in Venice.

  2. The Secret Itineraries Tour of the Doge's Palace. This tour as something beyond the normal tour and it is really fun!

Spooky Halloween

Halloween is an occasion to enjoy. Dressing up in a Halloween costume makes this night even more fun filled even if it is done just for a single night. But the most important thing to keep in mind while selecting your costume is that it should be comfortable and safe.

Along with New Year, come more and more ideas on dresses for the Halloween. While shopping for your costume, you might want to find out what costumes are 'in' this year. Only after that you decide about your purchase. Actually there is a wide range to choose from. There are different costumes for men, women and children.

It is your personal choice about how you want your theme to be. You can choose to masquerade as a movie actor or a pirate or some cartoon. In fact you can pick any costume you want and you need not worry about it.

Many people also design their own costume. It can reflect you as a person and also display your creativity. Designing and creating your own dress can be really entertaining. It allows your imagination to run wildly and reach its extreme ends. You can also opt for renting costumes. But if you are too late, then probably most of the good outfits would be gone. So the shopping should be done as early as possible.

While selecting your Halloween outfit, safety should be of prime importance. Do not wear any such thing that can hinder your clear vision. You should be able to see, hear and feel everything that goes around you. If you are into trick and treat, then make sure you carry some flash light along with you so that the passing automobiles are able to see you from distance. If the weather is cold, it is a smart decision to purchase a costume that is large enough to let you wear some warm clothes inside. If it is warm, then you may not like your costume to be heavy and thick. This might cause overheating and you may feel uncomfortable.

Halloween is a very interesting and exciting time that brings joy whenever it comes. Whether you are a kid or a grown up, you would like to enjoy it with the maximum zeal. Looking creepy, spooky and yet being safe is what this festival is all about. Be sure to buy your Halloween costumes and masks carefully. Have a happy Halloween!

Free Christmas Craft Idea For Kids

Children love crafts at Christmastime. You can spend time with your children as you enjoy these Santa craft ideas that are relatively fun and easy. Pick from a variety of our Christmas craft-decorating, free ideas.

SANTA PICTURE:

If you are searching for holiday craft ideas for preschoolers, begin with this activity-Santa pictures. There are hundreds of Santa coloring books sold during Christmas. Pick a picture from the book. Cut out Santa's picture, and put it in the center of your white construction paper. Using a glue stick, paste the Santa's picture on to the paper.

Color the picture with colored markers. Cotton balls to be added as Santa's beard and the tip of his red hat. You can use black buttons to serve as Santa's eyes and a red bead button for his nose. Decorate the rest of the area of the white paper by drawing candy canes or trees.

After you are done, have your kids print their names right under Santa. Glue their art work to a piece of heavy cardboard. Put the picture in a frame to protect it. Then you can show off your child's art work in your home..

SANTA CHRISTMAS CARDS:

Santa Christmas cards are also fun for your children. Get a piece of heavy, white paper and cut the paper to a 5" x 7" size. You can fold it in half, either way - vertical or horizontal. Now it's time to be creative. Have pictures of Santa that your kids can copy on to the front cover. Use crayons or felt markers to let their creative ideas explode.

Open up the card and let your children print Christmas messages on the inside of the card. Homemade Christmas cards are delightful to display at home or send to friends and relatives. If you are doing several projects, be sure to add this to your Christmas craft-a-day calendar.

MAKE A SANTA PLATE ORNAMENT FOR THE CHRISTMAS TREE:

To make a Santa plate, gather crayons and markers, cotton balls, a large paper plate, and color sparkles. On the paper plate, trace or draw Santa, without his red hat. Glue the cotton balls on his beard. As a way of being creative, glue the cotton balls together into a V-shape so that Santa's beard hangs off the plate. Another place to use cotton balls is on Santa's hair

Color Santa's eyes blue and draw the Santa's glasses black. Color cotton ball red with food coloring or a market. Now place it on Santa's nose. On the rim of the plate, use red or green marker. You might like to decorate it with glitter, too. Lastly, you need to add a hook to the plate and hang it on your tree.

Who said it can't be done? There are so many different ways to share with your kids in designing, creating, and decorating Santa Christmas ornaments, pictures, and cards.

Kris King wants to give you her free advent calendars for your family's Christmas & Advent Celebration this year. Her package also includes free ornament craft ideas [http://www.christmascelebrationideas.com/santacrafts.htm] you can use today.

Dramality - Reality With A Twist Of Lime

It is simple fact that you would have needed to live on a deserted island in say the South China Sea, to have avoided being swept away by the initial Survivor mania. As a self-proclaimed channel surfer, "hang ten for me means hit the TIVO while I hit the kitchen for a quick snack, so I admit freely I have seen the ebb and flow, the wax and wane of all kinds of programming branded reality and now find myself wondering what does "reality" really mean?
Sure when someone eats a worm or a bug, jumps from a plane or hikes up her bloomers in Paris all in the name of love we know we are watching something absurd, but that worm slides down slow and slimy and with no stunt double waiting in the wings.

But what about the new age of reality? What I have come to call "dramality". Oh you know full well what I am talking about as we each sit glued to the television as The ladies of Wysteria Lane take to a neighborhood just similar enough to our own to make the gay son, the Bipolar teenager, and the plumber every woman dreams of real enough to keep us hooked
"Dramality", from the operating room of Grey's Anatomy to those desperate but delightful housewives what makes this new genre so much more appealing?

In my opinion, we simply need a short break from reality and this is just enough to "keep it real" without the "reality hangover". In fact, the equation seems quite simple or maybe I am simply justifying that fact that I think I have a desperate housewife trapped inside me.

When we watch Extreme Home Makeover (and I do, loving every minute of it; although why won't Sears donate a hairbrush for TY?) When the sun sets on that fabulicious new house we still have a very real a little girl or boy who remains terminally ill, a wife who has lost her beloved husband or a family torn apart by mother nature.

But when Brea takes a bottle of whiskey and a crystal goblet to bed or "McDreamy" breaks another heart in the Emergency Room. I think to myself, "I know what it feels like to want to escape life, to live within an imperfect family trying to keep the mask and the masquerade in tact, I know what it is like to work long hours for a seemingly uncaring boss and have friends desert me in my time of need.

Ah, "dramality" that place we can go day after day channel after channel where even though it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it isn't the SWAN and dealing with reality is really quite simple. As your Average Joe is not quite average and we can find solace and safety in knowing Teri Hatcher fell in love with Superman but a decade ago so she will find love again
Dramality reigns supreme, unless of course I walk into work today only to hear The Donald say, "You're fired". I'll keep you posted.

Accessorize Your New Year's Outfit With A Mask

masquerade masks were originally designed in Italy to provide a type of diversion for the townfolk during festival months, and caught on swiftly, once undetectable behind a mask, the gentlemen and ladies could freely associate with the commoners during festival. Old Italian law noted the two classes were not authorized to mingle, a law which, if broken could result in major consequences. Even in the face of such consequence, the noblemen including clergy would cover up themselves and speak together with the commoners, doing their finest to ferret out very important political material from them. The construction of the masquerade cover up can be as plain or as sophisticated as the maker could imagine. Because beads, ribbon and feathers were generally plentiful and radiant, they were common pieces on masks. After their inception in Italy, the likeability of the masquerade mask dispersed swiftly throughout the world.

Styles of Venetian Masks

There are five standard Venetian mask types which are constructed from leather, paper mache' or with the application of gesso and gold leaf. The Bauta mask, with its square jawline, sharp chin without a mouth, hid the face for complete anonymity. The Bauta is one of the earliest Venetian masks, whose legitimate name is "Larva," which means ghost mask. The Bauta mask was created with a jutting beaked front, allowing its user to both eat and drink while remaining masked-the design also changed the tone of the wearer's voice, adding further to the mystery. The Bauta was usually either black or white and was the one mask which was not worn exclusively at carnival times; it was actually obligatory for women to don the Bauta mask when relishing a night at the theater.

The impressive black velvet oval mask, thought to accentuate the womanly features, is known as a Moretta or Servetta Mutta, which suggests a mute maid servant, most likely because the wearer was unable to speak a result of the mask's style. The Moretta mask originated in France but became quite the rage amidst Venetian women who wore it while visiting the convent, perhaps to help ensure their silence. Although the original Moretta mask was kept in place by way of a button clenched between the user's teeth, modern Moretta masks use ties.

The Larva or Volto masquerade mask is almost all white, likely utilized along with a tri- cornered hat to finish the outfit. Much like the Bauta, the design of the mask alotted the individual to breathe and drink, therefore there was no need to remove it and expose one's identity. The Larva masks were created with fine wax cloth, and were quite lightweight, rendering them suitable for eating, dancing-and flirting!

The Columbino mask was a half-mask, secured to the face using a baton or attached with a ribbon. It was a stunning actress from the sixteenth century who inspired the Columbino; it had been rumored that she believed herself too attractive to hide her complete face. Combine masks tend to be adorned with fur, feathers, jewels, gold, silver and crystals.

The Medico Della Peste mask (The Plague Doctor). A French Physician named Charles de Lorme was the mask's inventor who in fact developed the mask as a safeguard for treating people with the plague. Medico Della Peste is a complete full-faced mask that has a long, slim, hollow beak. These masks are typically completely white, with round eye holes adorned with crystal discs.

The Domino mask is known as a small rounded mask covering merely the eyes as well as the area between them; Venetian Carnival masks were often called domini because they mirrored French priests' winter hoods, with black on the outside and white on the inside. The domino mask is similar to the masquerade mask, though lacks the embellishments and decoration.

The most common colors associated with the masks were usually vivid oranges, reds, blues and greens, with darker colors generally selected for the men's full-face mask. Masks continue to be widespread today either at a Venetian carnival, an non-traditional wedding, costume balls, or special celebrations like Chinese New Year and Renaissance Fair. Probably the most popular use is in the celebration of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Masquerade masks are also commonly used as purely interesting pieces of artwork. New Year's Masquerade balls are also particularly popular affair-after all, using a lovely masquerade mask to welcome in the New Year just seems to go together! The most used colors for New Year's parties often are black and white or black and silver, and many people use stick masks for these events as they can be used intermittently. If you're trying to look really stylish as well as elegant this New Year's, consider the addition of a masquerade mask as part of your outfit.

Birthday Themes - Top 3 Sweet 16 Birthday Party Themes

Turning 16 years old is arguably one of the most important birthday's you will ever celebrate. There is a load of pressure that is on the person throwing the party and mounds of anticipation from the birthday boy or girl. Needless to say, it is a difficult task to pull off well. This article will hopefully provide some great ideas for your party planning and spark some of your own creative juices to plan the best sweet 16 birthday party ever.

Mardi Gras Style- What teenager hasn't seen the Mardi Gras celebration on TV and wished they could be there. It is one of the biggest parties the U.S. celebrates. Invitations are the first glimpse guests will see of your party planning labors. Get creative and include Mardi Gras beads or a masquerade mask with your invite. Organize a mini parade for your guests during the celebration. Include creole food and traditional costumes as much as you can. Make the event the biggest party you've ever seen and your guests will defiantly be amazed.

Spa- If you are planning for a 16 year old girls party the focus should be about pampering. Turn your back yard of living room into a room of relaxation. Renting a spa is always an option, however the price is not optional and is usually pretty expensive. Creating an out door spa with fountains and flowers may be an easier alternative. Recruit some helpers to give the gust of honor and her invites facials, manicures and whatever else they are in the mood for. It is just as easy to move the party inside if weather is a problem outdoors. Be sure to include lots of pampering favors such as:

  • Nail Polish

  • Facial Scrub

  • Moisturizer

  • Hair Treatment

Sometimes a salon will carry trial sized products and will allow you to buy them. Go to a local salon and explain your plans and ask if they can help. Serve light refreshments with the treatments.

Hollywood Royalty- We've all seen a Hollywood award show with the red carpet and stunning gowns. If you are like me then you've also wished you could get all dressed up and attend an event like that. A sweet 16 party is the perfect occasion to create this kind of atmosphere. Make sure your guests know to dress in formal wear and that there will be an evening of dancing, entertaining and food. You'll need a venue large enough to entertain a crowd and several different activities. Send the guest of honor out early to get their hair done and make sure they are all dressed up. Start the evening off with a grand entrance of your guests. Announce their names and who they are seen with as if they were royalty. You may also want to ask a local dance group to do a number welcoming your guest of honor. Make sure their entrance is unique and special. A night of food, dancing and entertainment will be a hit with everyone.

The one thing every party has in common no matter what the theme is, it's going to need the essentials. Tableware, balloons, streamers and lots more should be part of any party. Don't neglect to include these details when planning your perfect sweet 16 event.

Masquerade Weddings Are Fun For All!

Throwing a masquerade ball wedding is a great event that is fun for everybody who is in attendance. While some people think that having a theme like masquerade balls for their wedding is not fun for the men or the children and is geared more towards the females, this is definitely not true. In this article, I will go over a few short reasons why it is much better to have a masquerade wedding than any other type of wedding theme!

First of all, having a masquerade ball wedding is a lot of fun because it is different and exciting. People absolutely love the mystique and elegant, fashionable, and stylish way that they feel when they go to an extravagant masquerade wedding wearing a beautiful looking masquerade mask.

Also, masquerade masks can be as elaborate and extravagant as you want them to be, which leaves lots of room open to customization and individuality for the brides, and even the groom as well in many instances. Women love to wear the big, flashy feathers in their masks. Also, masks that have gorgeous trims and jewels on them are very popular among people who are attending a masquerade wedding.

Also, masquerade themes are great because they create a memorable experience that they will always remember, and are sure to never forget. It really sticks with a person when they get to dress up any way that they like, and also have a gorgeous woman with them to enjoy the masquerade wedding as well! Masquerade wedding are great all year round.
