Planning a Memorable Theme Party

Whether it is a gathering for co-workers or a birthday for your child, you want your parties to be more than just ho-hum. You can put together music, food, games and end up with just a so-so event that no one actually dislikes but no one will remember a week from now. Adding a theme makes party planning so much easier and creates an event that your friends will talk about for a long time to come.

As an example, let's consider a fun royal medieval theme.

Invitations and decorations:

Hand-made invitations are easy and show the guests that this is going to be something special. Cut card stock paper into a coat-of-arms shape and use a gold gel pen to write the invitation. Use phrases like "Hear ye! Hear ye!" and a formal tone appropriate to a royal function.

Royal colors are purple, pink, gold and silver so the decorations should match this palette. Streamers and glitter fabric add a festive, noble touch to the area. Make banners of paper or felt to decorate the walls.

You can make it a costume party or you can create simple crowns out of cardboard to be presented to guests upon their arrival. Get a few Renaissance music CDs to provide the right atmosphere.

Refreshments should fit the party: a castle-shaped cake, royal turkey legs, flagons of punch or soda (or beer depending on the age of the guests).

Traditional party games can be made into quests and the one who completes the most quests gets a special prize.

Outdoor inflatable rentals make the party really memorable:

To create a truly special event, consider renting inexpensive attractions such as inflatable obstacle courses. These fit the quest games, pitting mighty knights (or ladies) against each other and really add to the fun.

With some creativity there are other inflatable rentals that would work with this idea or just are fun by themselves. Inflatable slides are fun for kids of all ages. Sumo suits and boxing rings let guests battle it out safely.

Of course there are attractions other than inflatable rentals. Gladiator jousting lets opponents balanced precariously on platforms try to knock each other off with padded poles. An attraction called "Knock-Your-Block-Off" is perfect at a medieval party, as guests dress in padded knight costumes and try to chop off each other's heads.

Themes are memorable and easy:

Party themes will lift your party out of the doldrums and turn it into an exciting spectacle. Not only that but they make party planning easier. With a clear direction it's easy to come up with ideas for decorations, games, and party favors that tie the whole thing together.

Inexpensive inflatable and non-inflatable rentals are the icing on the cake, so to speak. A bungee bull at a cowboy party, a football throwing cage (with built in radar gun) at a sports party, or a surfboard simulator at a beach party will be experiences your guests will never forget.
