Winning Masquerade Celebration Suggestions

A masquerade party is always both exciting and fun. When you send out the invites, remember to clearly explain that this is to be a masquerade party and thus all guests are to come in costume and masks. Emphasize that the point of the masquerade is for the guests to guess who the others are masquerading.

Costume parties and masquerade balls have been around for a long time and there are many different takes to this type of party. When the agenda is to guess who each and every one of the guests are, then arrange the party in such a way that guests can only come in through a certain door. So when the parents drop off their charge, you can see who the parent is. Then you usher the child into the room and explain that the first activity of the party is to guess who that child is. Give each of them a piece of paper with the names of all the guests written on them. Each child is to write down the name of the costume character that they think the other children are dressed up in. After the children have guessed, you can go ahead with the party. The idea to do this first is because when the children arrive in masks and other restraining part of the costume, they might not be at ease. So after the guessing game they can take off their masks and enjoy the party. With older children, it might not be necessary to insist on playing this game first because they might want to leave the mask on for the rest of the party.

Another option for a masquerade party is for children to come in T-shirts and jeans and to let them create their own costumes. However this option is very time consuming and needs a lot of preparation on your part. You will need every piece of art supply possible. Then you need to take out your sewing machine and help to create costumes for them. Another option is to have available for your guests several costumes that they can make use of.

Remember that a great twist on a masquerade party would be to have a theme party in which every child can take part. You should have one theme but different costume ideas. For example, a child can wear a pirate outfit or a fairy princess costume depending on your theme. This is a more structured way to create a masquerade party atmosphere. Have each child work on their own mask or head dress and then put them on in secret and then the guessing game can begin. This works best with younger children because they are more likely to focus on the masks rather than by the clothes the others are wearing. Older children will be wiser and clothes will give the identity of the guest away.

However, the bottom line is for each and everyone at the party to have a great time and to enjoy themselves.
